The Woodseats Musical Theatre Company is still reeling from the success of our summer 2025 production of Anything Goes, Cole Porter’s timeless classic filled with romance, comedy, and unforgettable songs. After months of hard work, passion, and preparation, we had the joy of performing to wonderful audiences every night, and the feedback has been nothing short of amazing.

This was an especially momentous show for us, as it marked our first time back at The Montgomery Theatre in Sheffield following its closure for refurbishment in 2024. Returning to this iconic venue, newly refreshed and full of life, made the week even more special. The warmth and energy from the audiences reminded us why we do what we do: bringing high-quality musical theatre in Sheffield to life and sharing the magic of live performance.

Bringing Cole Porter’s Classic to Life

Anything Goes is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy set aboard an ocean liner travelling from New York to London. Packed with mistaken identities, clever twists, and heartfelt romance, the story follows Billy Crocker, a young man determined to win the heart of heiress Hope Harcourt, despite her engagement to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Along the way, nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and the lovable gangster Moonface Martin join the chaos, setting the stage for a wild and wonderful adventure at sea.

Cole Porter’s iconic score was a joy for us to bring to life, with classic numbers like I Get a Kick Out of You, You’re the Top, De Lovely, and, of course, Anything Goes itself. Our cast gave their all to every note and every step, and we’re so proud of the vibrant performances that lit up the stage from start to finish.

Glowing Reviews and Sold-Out Shows

We were blown away by the incredible response to the production, both during and after the shows. Our Saturday matinee was nearly sold out, and every night we welcomed enthusiastic, supportive audiences who made the whole experience unforgettable.

The reviews have been equally heartwarming, with audience members describing the show as:

4* “Smooth and enjoyable sailing

4* “Very well done

4* “Excellent

4* “Strong principal characters, wonderful costumes and vibrant performances of Cole Porter’s classic score

Hearing such positive feedback makes all the months of rehearsals and preparation worthwhile, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came along to support us.
